Report:
This is a January to remember. Rockfish closed on schedule and most of the boats began there normal off-season maintenance projects in the boat year. A hand full of the boats however postponed their yard time and opted to stay online for a little winter fishing. Sand Dab fishing as expected has been outstanding with just about every trip on the Gentleman coming back with 100+ Sand Dabs per angler. This past Thursday they had 25 anglers catch 2500 Sand Dabs on the Gentleman's 2 for 1 special. A very busy day indeed.
The coastal Yellowtail bite continues to peak the interest of our early morning anglers fishing with the Sea Jay and Cobra. On Saturday, both our full day boats found themselves in the middle of a wide open Yellowtail bite. Swimming under the boats and breaking the surface within casting distance. Jig fisherman are having good success hooking up to these grumpy fish but the live bait is producing best using both dropper loop and fly line techniques. While fishing the dropper loop we have had incidental catches of Halibut up to 40 pounds.
